SPILL AT MACZUK INDUSTRIES SITE ON RIVER ROAD

City of Atchison staff have been investigating increased citizen reports of a noxious odor on the east side of the City. This morning, staff discovered that an unknown liquid had been released from a storage tank located at the Maczuk Industries site at 814 River Road, which appears to be the source of the smell. City staff immediately reported this spill to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and our contacts at Maczuk Industries. Based on the information provided by Maczuk, we believe the liquid is a corn-based product that does not present any health danger other than the bad odor. We are working with KDHE and Maczuk to remediate the spill, and the bad odor connected with it, as quickly as possible.
