City Commission Approves All-Way Stops at Mall Intersections

City Commissioners voted unanimously to enact all-way stop signs at the intersections of Commercial Street with Fifth and Sixth Streets during Monday’s regular meeting. The newly installed intersections will need traffic control measures once the rehabilitation of the 500-600 blocks of Commercial Street is finished, replacing the pedestrian mall with a through street in those blocks. The stop signs will be in place as of June 1, contingent on completion of the project.

Commissioners also approved an annexation agreement along U.S. Highway 59, appointed LaTisha Downing to the Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board, approved a Main Street scale demolition agreement with Bartlett Grain Company and an employee payroll reimbursement due to cyber fraud – which was covered by insurance aside from the deductible.

Following the meeting the commissioners adjourned to a workshop to discuss parking surface regulations, then met as a Land Bank Commission to authorize the conveyance of properties at 1209 Unity Street and 401 N. 9th St and held an executive session regarding the potential acquisition of land bank property.

The next regular city commission meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 19, which is scheduled at this time to be a budgeting workshop.
