Gravesite Decorations
Oak Hill and the City of Atchison are not be responsible for any objects, mementos, or other memorabilia placed on, near, or affixed to a memorial or grave space.
Although the grounds are devoted to the burial of the deceased, it has been our disheartening experience that some members of the public do not respect the sanctity of the site. It is generally best to place only those objects that are replaceable or can be lost, stolen, or damaged without further stress to the family.
The placement of glass objects on or near grave spaces is strictly prohibited.
Maintenance
The City of Atchison performs routine maintenance and beautification of the grounds. Any item placed or affixed, and not of a permanent nature, may be removed and discarded by personnel in the interest of uniform and safe maintenance of the property.
We respectfully reserve the right to remove holders such as clay or plastic pots, wire, frames, and the like, containing flowers or other decorations as soon as the flowers fade or wither.
Living Memorials
The City may approve and supervise the planting of long-lived hardwood trees at Oak Hill. Trees or other plants planted without approval may be removed.
Although we take pride in caring for the grounds, the City is not responsible for the survival of the memorial tree. Family and loved ones are welcome to care for the living memorial if they so choose.
Pets?
Oak Hill is dedicated as a final sanctuary for humans only. We encourage you to contact a cemetery facility that caters to pets to make the appropriate accommodations.
On-leash surviving pets are permitted to visit the grounds. Please be responsible and pick up after them.
