Atchison, Kansas – City officials announced today the hiring of Joe Warren as the Director of Administrative Services. A newly created position within the executive team, the Director of Administrative Services oversees Finance, Community Development and Communications for the City of Atchison. Warren was chosen for the position after completing a challenging 24-hour interview process, and interviewing with three different panels, including one of community members, one of experts in finance and community development, and one comprised of the City’s department heads.

Warren is currently the editor and publisher of the Daily Star-Journal in Warrensburg, Mo. Warren previously held that title with the Atchison Globe, where he worked for eight years before moving to Warrensburg in 2015.

Warren was selected in large part due to his 15 years of managerial experience, 18 years of mass communications experience, 10 years of budgeting and forecasting experience and a career spent working as a community builder and leader with numerous boards, agencies and organizations. Warren has a bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., and plans to seek a Master’s in Public Administration to help him with his future role.

“I loved my time in Atchison, this is a special community,” Warren said. “The chance to come back and make a difference here – this time as a public servant – was too good to pass up. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to playing my role in helping Atchison be as dynamic as possible.”

Warren will begin his duties on July 23, 2018. He brings with him his wife, Lacy – a Benedictine College graduate – and two daughters.
