Annual Service Contracts

Each year the City bids out annual contracts for repair services on regular electrical and electrical for the Amelia Earhart Festival, HVAC, and plumbing as well as pricing for equipment rental and rock aggregate.
We do this to get greater value for our dollar, to improve our own efficiency, and to provide a fair competition among our talented local vendors.
In 2016, our service contracts went to:
  • Betts Electric – Electrical for the Amelia Earhart Festival
  • Gerber Electric – Regular Electric
  • Hays Heating and Cooling – HVAC
  • Tate Plumbing – Plumbing
  • Van Dyke Lawn Care – Nuisance Abatement Mowing
If you’re interested in bidding for next year, contact our Public Works Help Line at 913/367-5561 to receive an invitation to bid when proposals are opened. We usually request proposals starting around November and award bids at the end of December.

Sole Source

For efficiency and value, our purchasing policy also allows us to declare “sole source” vendors for a few very specific services and items. This means that we have permission to use the vendor continually and go out to bid less often,such as 3-10 years instead of annually or purchase-to-purchase.
At this time, the products and services that we sole source include:
  • Property & Casualty Insurance Broker
  • Audit Services
  • Bond Counsel
  • IT Maintenance
  • Accounting Software
  • Postal Machine/Copiers
