On October 5th, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the award of $479.1M in airport infrastructure grants for 123 projects across the country. The Amelia Earhart Airport was the only project selected in Kansas with a 100% federally funded grant of $6.1M for the purpose of constructing a new runway.
In the photo, the proposed runway is shown in gray with an East/West (or 9-27) alignment. The northern two-thirds of the existing runway (purple) will be removed. Runway 9-27 will be 4,000 ft. long and 75 ft. wide compared to the existing Runway 16-34, which is 3,000 ft. long and 48 ft. wide.
