2016 Development Highlights

2016 saw a series of exciting development projects breaking ground in the Atchison community.

• In April, an $11 million upgrade and expansion to the downtown YMCA broke ground and the project remains on track to open by year end 2017.
• Concurrently, and just two blocks away, a brand new, 68 room, downtown Holiday Inn Express broke ground in September of 2016 and remains on track to open in the fall of 2017.
• Finally, in October of 2016, Benedictine College, now Atchison’s largest employer and home to nearly 2,000 college students, broke ground on a $25 million renovation and expansion of Westerman Hall. The “Century of Science” campaign will result in state of the art science and engineering classrooms and laboratory space and is the largest capital campaign in the history of Benedictine College.
