The City of Atchison seeks an energetic local government professional to be its next City Manager. It will be important for the next City Manager to maintain an environment of trust and credibility and to foster positive and productive relationships with the City of Atchison, City Commission, and employees. The chosen candidate will optimize the City’s development opportunities and guide it on the path to sustainable growth. Economic development and municipal finance skills are needed to ensure development opportunities are sought and implemented using fiscally responsible processes and procedures that make the best use of the City’s resources. The incoming City Manager will need to successfully merge new developments with the existing foundation while maintaining the unique historical charm of the city. Previous finance experience will be required to skillfully guide the city in developing budgets, identifying new sources of revenue, implementing cost-saving techniques, and meeting current and future fiduciary responsibilities. Because the City Manager must manage multiple projects simultaneously, the ideal candidate will be a multi-tasker with demonstrated project management experience and proven strategic planning skills.

The City of Atchison currently has 110 FTE employees and a 2022 budget (all funds including utilities, capital improvement, equipment replacement, etc…) of about $31 million.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, or a related field and at least five years of experience as a city administrator/manager, assistant city administrator/ manager, or similar executive-level position. A master’s degree in public administration is highly desired.

The annual salary range for this position is $105,000 to $130,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
