The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Atchison for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2020. It is the 25th consecutive year the city has earned the award.
“This award demonstrates that the City upholds the highest standards in financial reporting and is completely transparent in how we utilize public funds,” Assistant City Manager Joe Warren said. “This combined with clean independent audits year after year should give the public confidence that taxpayer funds are being properly managed from an accounting perspective.”
The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
Finance Manager Cari Strieby is the city’s leader in accounting practices and procedures. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
