Zoning Regulation Proposal Set for Public Hearing

In Business News, Featured News, General News, News

A proposal aimed at easing infill housing regulations will be heard by the City of Atchison’s Planning Commission on Wednesday, August 5th at 4:30 PM.

Zoning regulations commonly restrict new construction development with limitations on minimum lot size, front/side/rear lot setbacks, minimum lot widths, maximum building area, etc… While zoning regulations do restrict construction activity, but they also protect adjacent property owners and their real estate investment by ensuring that nearby development is consistent and appropriate.

The proposal to be considered would easy many of the limitations on infill housing development projects, especially those sited on smaller lots in Atchison’s oldest, core neighborhoods. The proposed changes would only impact existing lots platted prior to December 1, 1943. All subsequently platted lots are not impacted by the proposed changes.

The public hearing will be held during the Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday, August 5 2020, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Commission Room, second floor of City Hall, 515 Kansas Avenue, Atchison, Kansas. Interested persons may attend the public hearing or submit written comments to the Community Development Office, 515 Kansas Avenue, Atchison, KS 66002 or via email to francesz@cityofatchison.com.
