Recreation for exercise and leisure is available throughout the Atchison community. The variety found in Atchison’s landscape -steep inclines, rolling hills, flat stretches – is the perfect challenge for walkers, joggers, runners, and cyclists of all skill levels.
We also welcome recreational crafts at our scenic Missouri River boat launches and “no-wake” boating at Warnock Lake.
Our local schools, both public and private, are proud of a rich tradition of excellent athletic programs, and the Atchison community boasts a state-of-the-art sports complex adjacent to Atchison Elementary.
From basketball to football to soccer to tennis and everything in between, young Atchison is active. Extracurricular athletics are offered by Atchison Recreation Commission and the Atchison Family YMCA as well as a host of league teams in the area. The Atchison YMCA is also invested in providing family fitness. Its facility offers a host of programs, classes, and equipment for every interest.
If you’re looking for outdoor recreation, check out Bellevue Country Club. Also, don’t forget the absolutely free opportunities for recreation at the City’s parks including the disc golf courses at Jackson Park and Warnock Lake, walking trails at the scenic riverfront, and camping and no-wake boating at Warnock Lake.
