The City’s 2020 Street Improvement Project is set to begin construction on Tuesday, March 31st. The project includes a series of concrete and asphalt overlay improvements in various locations throughout the community. Work on the K-7 Mill and Overlay Project is also scheduled to occur in the coming weeks.
Locally based Bottorff Construction will serve as the concrete contractor while Herzog Asphalt Paving out of St. Joseph, MO will serve as the asphalt contractor for both projects. Contract awards were authorized by the City Commission in early December of 2019.
The Herzog scope of work includes milling and asphalt overlay while the concrete scope of work includes new concrete intersection transitions and small amounts of curb/gutter and sidewalk replacement.
The 2020 Street Improvement Project is financed with $1.25 million in bond proceeds, a typical undertaking for the City every three years. The $275,000 K-7 Mill and Overlay Project is 90% funded through a KDOT grant with the remainder coming from the City of Atchison.
