Hotel Development underway in Atchison

Atchison, KS – The City of Atchison, with the approval of a development agreement between the City and Atchison Hospitality Group, LLC, is proud to announce the start of the development process of a new franchised hotel in Atchison. The initiative to bring a new hotel to Atchison was undertaken by the City in 2013 by engaging HREC, a professional firm with expertise in market analysis for the hospitality industry. The report was finalized in early 2014 and the favorable report initiated communications with developers.

Construction is anticipated to start this fall on a 68 – 72 room midscale select service hotel which will be located at what is now a public parking lot between 4th and 5th streets along
Main St. in Downtown Atchison. The hotel is expected to be four stories and feature an indoor pool, fitness center, business center and small conference room. A franchise application has been submitted and is under review. Once that application is approved and final, further information regarding the brand affiliation of the hotel will be made public.

Atchison Hospitality Group, LLC (AHG), is a locally based company which was created for the purpose of the development of the hotel. AHG is owned by 9 local investors who hold 60% of the ownership in the company in addition to several other investors who share a minority stake in the company. The President of AHG is Bill Michaud. He and his company, BAJA Management Corporation, will be in charge of the development of the hotel and day to day operations after construction. Bill provides AHG with over 20 years of hotel experience and is a respected leader in the hospitality industry in Kansas. BAJA Management Corporation currently owns and operates one other hotel property, a Sleep Inn hotel in Fort Scott, KS.
