City Commissioners approved a construction contract for the Main Street Corridor Project at the regular City Commission meeting on Monday, November 1, 2021.
The Main Street Corridor Project scope of work includes replacement and/or upgrading of the curb/gutter, sidewalks, street lighting, and corridor landscaping on the south side of Main Street from 2nd Street to 10th Street, including improvements to the Farmers’ Market site and an extension that connects to the Riverfront Trail.
“Our organization has made critical transportation corridors a very high priority,” Interim City Manager Justin Pregont said. “Our investments in the US-73 corridor, the 2nd Street corridor, the Kansas Avenue corridor, the south 5th Street corridor, the Commercial Street Corridor, and now the Main Street corridor are an intentional effort to create a more inviting platform for future private investment, especially in the downtown core.”
The $1.55 million contract with Amino Brothers Inc. is primarily funded by $1.133 million in federal Transportation Alternatives funding. The City of Atchison will contribute the balance of the necessary funds to build the project, which is expected to be about $421,000.
