700 Block of Commercial Re-Opens to Traffic/Parking
Work on the 800 Commercial Streetscape Project has mostly transitioned to Phase 2, meaning vehicular traffic can now access the on-street parking and storefronts along the 700 block of Commercial Street. Motorists looking to access the storefront parking should do so by turning west onto Commercial Street from 7th Street. Since vehicles can access the 700 block from 7th Street, but will be unable to exit to the west, please use caution as you turn around to exit the area.
Additional Project Information:
- With the closure of the 700 Block now in the rear view mirror, the City’s golf cart and handicapped accessible van shuttle services will immediately cease operations.
- The construction zone will continue to shift to the west as the new separated stormwater system is installed underground. The entirety of the 800 block of Commercial will soon be blocked off.
- The intersection at 8th Street and Commercial Street will remain closed for about two more weeks while crews work to install the new separated stormwater system in that immediate vicinity.
- While working in the 8th and Commercial intersection, crews uncovered a set of old streetcar rail lines. Some photos of that discovery are included below.
