The City of Atchison has adopted a comprehensive ADA Transition Plan. That document is available in Part 1 and Part 2. This annual program is intended to fund accessibility improvements at City parks and facilities to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In previous years, the City’s ADA Advisory Board and City Commission have allocated this annual funding to larger sidewalk projects, such as Downtown West Sidewalks. For 2017, the ADA Advisory Board has recommended spending the $25,000 on a series of improvements at City parks, focusing first on accessible parking spaces, picnic tables, water fountains, and sidewalk access.
